“Use of Geosynthetics in the Mining and Mineral Processing Industry,”

The objective of the research under the IGS-NA Award of Excellence was to investigate the main uses of geosynthetics in the mining and mineral-processing sector and to summarize relevant field performance results and technical considerations for their use. The study methodology included but was not limited to a questionnaire sent to the mining industry and individual industry contacts, personal communication with consultants and colleagues, field investigations, and literature review. To meet the study objective, pertinent case studies of geosynthetic use were identified, technical considerations were compiled, and key aspects of the selected case studies were summarized.

The Geo-Frontiers 2011 conference was held March 13 – 16, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. The conference was co-organized by the Geo-Institute of ASCE, Industrial Fabrics Association International, North American Geosynthetics Society, and Geosynthetics Materials Association. The conference proceedings include 497 technical papers which cover advances in research and practical applications in the areas of geotechnologies including geosynthetics. These papers were presented in 86 technical sessions over a 3 day period.
